Job announcement text:
The Astronomical Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences (ASU) invites applications for an 18-month full-time Visiting Junior Researcher Stay. The Stay will be funded through a working agreement in the framework of the project “Support of international collaboration in astronomy”, which is provided by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. The project provides a highly-competitive salary above the standards in Czechia, and covers the health insurance.

The aim of this Stay is to bring to ASU expertise needed to successfully apply for the observations with ESO telescopes, to carry out the observations and to reduce and analyse the obtained data. Projects carried out during the Stay can utilize both data obtained by employees of ASU and data obtained by the Visiting Researcher, ideally focusing on spectroscopic and imaging observations, in particular made by the Integral Field Units (IFU) instruments. The projects should be related to one or more of the following topics: stellar astronomy, galactic and extra-galactic astronomy and relativistic physics. The aim of the Stay is to contribute to the successful utilisation of the ESO telescopes by Czech astronomers and to their readiness for observations by the largest optical telescope ELT, that is currently being build by ESO in Chile.

The applicant should have PhD in astronomy, astrophysics or a related field, received not more than 7 years before the start of the Stay. To apply, please send a motivation letter and CV to jachym@ig.cas.cz before the 15th September 2021.

Expected start of the project: November 2021

Duration: 18 months
